Mangrove

In 2018 and 2019, the GCCA+ Suriname project titled "Setting Up a Mangrove Biodiversity Monitoring System" was coordinated by SBB and carried out in close collaboration with BBS, CELOS, NZCS, and NB. During this project, data were collected and analyzed from 11 sampling locations, providing valuable insights into the state of the mangrove forest cover, its spatial development over recent decades, the biodiversity within it, and its carbon stock capacity.

In 2023, a follow-up was conducted as part of the GCCA+ Suriname Adaptation Project Phase 2, titled "Strengthening the Mangrove Monitoring System," in close collaboration with SBB and CELOS. During this phase, six (6) additional sampling units (SUs) were established, and the existing 11 SUs were remeasured. The mangrove remote sensing monitoring system was also improved and expanded with yearly cover maps for the period 1988–2023.
