Forest fires in Suriname

Near Real Time Monitoring

By the end of the year 2016 SBB started to develop a Near Real Time Monitoring system (NRTM), where the main focus is on the visual detection of unplanned logging on Sentinel 2-images. Forest cover changes due to mining, infrastructure or forest fires can also be detected, but currently there is no operational follow system for these alerts. The intention is to work on this in collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources in the near future.
